High Risk Occupation
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (February 16)- - Driving a race car at upwards of 190 miles per hour can be classified as a dangerous profession. As such it is often difficult and quite costly for drivers to secure disability insurance policies. "People want to see crashes but they also want to see us walk away," said Jeff Gordon. "We are supposed to be fearless and drive the race car like there is no tomorrow. But at the same time, getting hurt is in our minds and we do worry about it." The cost for driver insurance policies is astronomical and it's safe to say that most drivers do not have policies. Gordon wouldn't disclose how much his policy is worth, but said he pays more than $100,000 a year for it. "You have to have it," Gordon said. "I have it because of the money I make. It's good business to take care of the ones you leave behind." (News Journal)

For the first 10,000 cards received in the next 200 days, DuPont will donate $1 per card to the Jeff Gordon Foundation which benefits family and children's charities such as The Make-A-Wish Foundation, The Marrow Foundation, and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation among others.

DuPont Heritage
WILMINGTON, DE. (February 9)- - To help mark its 200th anniversary, DuPont has launched a new Internet site that offers information on the company's history, scientific achievements and innovations. Visitors to the site can scroll horizontally to explore an interactive timeline that begins in 1802 with founder E.I. du Pont and the company's first product- gunpowder. The timeline highlights 80 milestones of the company's first two centuries. Clicking on any one of them will reveal a short overview of the subject matter. More in-depth essays and a list of other related sources accompany the subject giving the reader the option to delve deeper into a given area. Topics include Stephanie Kwolek, the co-inventor of DuPont Kevlar aramid fiber; the start-up of various DuPont subsidiaries around the world; and introduction of DuPont Teflon fluoropolymer, DuPont Nomex brand fiber and a host of other products. Included in the timeline of milestones is 1993- the year the company signed on to sponsor Jeff Gordon in NASCAR racing. Suffice to say, it's been a successful arrangement.
