(March 18, 2002)- - The following contains news crosses over into Jeff Gordon's personal life. As was first reported on Saturday, March 16 his wife, Brooke, has filed for divorce.
Following is Jeff's statement in a press release regarding the aforementioned:

"As you are probably well aware, Brooke has filed for divorce. Being a personal matter, I hope that everybody will respect our privacy as we work through this difficult time. I also hope everybody will understand that it would be improper for me to discuss or comment on this matter publicly. I appreciate the support I've received from my family, friends and those in the racing community."

The following more personal message was posted on the website of the Jeff Gordon Foundation:

Dear Jeff Gordon Fan Club Members, Jeff Gordon Foundation Supporters and Race Fans,
I want to personally thank you for your expressions of concern and support during this time. The thoughts and prayers I have received from my fans have been a source of encouragement. Since it is impossible for me to respond to everyone, I want you to know how much your support means to me. The Jeff Gordon Foundation will continue its mission to support children and families in need. As in the past, I will dedicate my time and resources to the ongoing work of the Foundation. The #24 Hendrick Team and I are as committed as ever to winning races and our fifth NASCAR Winston Cup championship.
