Honors For Sprague
SAN FRANCISCO, CA. (December 14)- - Jack Sprague
was honored on Friday evening at the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series banquet
in San Francisco. Sprague, the driver of the Hendrick Motorsports
#24 GMAC Chevrolet, won his second series title in the past three seasons.
It was the fifth consecutive season that Hendrick Motorsports claimed a championship
in a NASCAR touring division.
"Where would I be today without Rick and John Hendrick and the entire
Hendrick organization? Your motorsports operation is second to none,"
said Sprague in praise of his owner. "I truly thank you for the opportunity
you have given me, along with the team support and equipment to win
championships for you." Rick Hendrick, who has been away from the racing scene
while his leukemia treatments progressed over the past few years, was able
to attend the banquet. "I've watched too many of these banquets on television for the
past three years while undergoing the treatments for leukemia, which have
just ended, and I'm happy to say I'm feeling stronger every day," Hendrick said.
A Face In The Crowd
NEW YORK, N.Y. (December 4)- - Jeff
Gordon came to New York City for the Winston Cup Awards Banquet
at the Waldorf Astoria in an unfamiliar position.
For the first time since 1996, Gordon
was not the center of attention in the days leading up to the banquet.
He was just another face in the crowd. After finishing
sixth in the points, he didn't have to be here early. He came in Wednesday,
caught a show and went to dinner with his wife, Brooke, and just relaxed.
"I guess I've got to try to find the positive in everything," he said. "So I
liked this pace quite a bit."
